THE ORIGIN OF PIZZA
Although it is known first and foremost as an Italian creation, the history of Pizza can be traced back to the ancient lands of the Middle East, Greece and even Egypt. These cultures were among the first to produce flatbread from their mud furnaces. It is believed that flatbread became popular in the Greek settlement of Naples as fast and cheap food for the most humble citizens.
THE ORIGIN OF PIZZA – PIZZA IS QUICKLY CATCHING UP IN ITALY
It is said that the well-known Pizza Margherita was named after the Italian monarch, Queen Margherita, who visited Naples and asked for a sample of the range of pizza dishes available there. Supposedly, she expressed particular appreciation for the pizza topped with mozzarella and tomatoes, and her family name was forever linked to the fate of that particular pizza. Once it became known that the Queen herself had a taste of typical Neapolitan food, pizza began to spread like wildfire throughout Italy.
THE ORIGIN OF PIZZA – COMBINATION OF DELICIOUS INGREDIENTS
Pizza is made from a combination of ingredients that have been developed together with the pizza itself. Flour and yeast are combined to form a flat-bread base. A variety of cheeses can be used in pizza making, but by far the most popular is mozzarella. This cheese was originally made from buffalo milk and is still available in some parts of Italy.
The most important specialty of our restaurant is pizza. We started in 1996 as a small pizza boutique for take away and only four serving tables. Soon, we became one of the best pizzerias on the island. The atmosphere in the restaurant is always hospitable and warm with a fireplace that dominates in the winter.
